Student Spotlight
I chose Colorado Christian University for my master's in counseling because the faculty at CCU seemed to prepare students holistically for their future careers. Students who graduate from CCU have success in terms of passing the jurisprudence exam and finding a job in the first year after graduation.
I have been provided with many hands on learning experiences at CCU. The faculty seek to provide mentoring relationships with students. I did not expect to be provided with so much advice on professional development and building a resume. CCU faculty have helped walk me through many things that thought I would have to figure out on my own. Because of their efforts, I truly do feel that I am currently more prepared for working in the field of counseling than I would be had I chosen a different program.
Once I complete my M.A. Counseling at CCU, I hope to achieve several things. I am hoping to first gain experience working with inner city populations in Denver, specifically in counseling youth and refugees. I hope to get involved in international relief work while working in Denver. I am hoping that these experiences will aid me in achieving my ultimate and long term goal of forming a mission team and with them providing counseling services where they do not yet exist overseas.
CCU Student Awarded Counseling Fellowship to Serve Youth
The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), recently selected Kelsie Leigh McGuire of Lakewood, Colorado, for the NBCC Minority Fellowship Program-Youth (MFP-Y). As an NBCC MFP-Y fellow, McGuire will receive funding and training to support her education and facilitate her service to underserved minority populations, with a specific focus on transition-age youth (ages 16-25).
McGuire is currently pursuing a master's degree in the counseling program at Colorado Christian University, in Lakewood. McGuire plans to work with inner-city populations, particularly individuals caught in a negative cycle that can't seem to see or find a way out.
