Minor in Contemporary Music

Have you wondered what it takes to be successful in today's music industry while standing firm and continuing to grow in your faith? If you have a passion and talent for pointing people to Jesus through music, CCU's Contemporary Music minor is the place to begin. Offered through CCU's School of Music, and in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, TN, this minor offers a concentrated area of contemporary music coursework, biblical teaching, invaluable mentoring, and real-world music industry experiences.

The Contemporary Music minor exposes you to different career possibilities in the modern entertainment world. The program prepares you to be effective as a believer in the entertainment industry while challenging you to unwaveringly live out your faith and worship Him through your gifts and talents.

  • The Contemporary Music Minor is open to all students in all majors with no prior experience in music required.
  • The Contemporary Music minor requires a Digital Music Sequencing course taken at CCU, in combination with a 16-credit hour semester-away study at the Contemporary Music Center in Nashville credited through Greenville University.
  • This minor requires acceptance first by the School of Music and second by the Contemporary Music Center, as space is limited.
  • The semester away is available starting the sophomore year.
  • College credits are granted by Greenville University and directly transferred to CCU.
  • Tuition and housing costs are paid to the Contemporary Music Center.
  • CCU scholarships do not apply to the semester away, but federal financial aid may apply.
  • Professor Charles Denler is the CCU faculty member in charge of this program.

Contemporary Music Tracks

Three tracks are available for you to pursue according to your personal interests, with the Artist Track, where you will write, record, and perform music; the Business Track, where you will learn to manage, promote, and market within the industry; and the Technical Track, for those with a passion for sound, lighting, and audio. Each of these tracks provide specific expertise in your professional area of study while helping foster a lifestyle of extravagant worship.

Auditioning for the School of Music

Prospective students who are planning to major or minor in music or theatre are required to audition for participation in most ensembles and for consideration for School of Music scholarships.

About the School of Music

The School of Music equips students with the necessary skills to become expressive artists and effective communicators from a Christian perspective through the discipline of music. Our students use music and theatre to impact culture for Christ, to honor Him, and to share His love on campus and around the world. Opportunities are open to students of all majors and include national and international tours for major ensembles and an on-campus recording studio.

Academic programs range from Music Performance, Music Education, and Music Composition to Worship Arts, Theatre, and Dance. NASM establishes national standards for undergraduate degrees and other credentials for music and music-related disciplines, and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other music-related endeavors.
