Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts for Education (B.A.)

Special Education: Generalist Licensure

The Special Education Generalist K-12 in Liberal Arts for Education major provides you with instruction on how to facilitate individualized instruction, develop accurate student assessments, integrate learning strategies, and offer educational support. You'll learn how to provide instruction for students with learning and/or physical disabilities, focusing specifically on how to individualize classroom management and structure for these students.

Graduates of the Special Education: Generalist Licensure program earn a Bachelor of Arts in two majors: Liberal Arts for Education and K-12 Special Education. The program is 120 credit hours and offers supervised clinical practice experiences in elementary, middle, and high school settings for students aged 5-21. Upon program completion, the candidate has met all requirements for an institutional recommendation for an Initial Colorado Teacher License with an Endorsement in the area of K-12 Special Education Generalist.

Special Education at CCU

CCU's Special Education program prepares you to address the special challenges associated with students who have learning or physical disabilities. The School of Education integrates faith and learning, training you how to excel as a teacher, as well as a believer who shares God's love with students every day. Taught from a Christian worldview, CCU's Special Education program helps develop you as an educator who is dedicated to addressing diverse learner needs with excellence, through servant-leadership in your field and in society.

Small class sizes encourage individualized learning and networking, and allow you direct access to professors. Highly qualified faculty members equip you for teaching careers in all subjects, educating you so you can educate the leaders of the future. Graduates from this program also automatically earn emphases in reading, language arts, and social studies, in addition to their education degree.

Research Opportunities in Education

Students who are interested in research opportunities should have sophomore or junior standing in the School of Education. Students will complete an application process and meet with a faculty advisor to determine the area of focus and responsibilities within the research project. With supervision from a faculty member, students will develop a research proposal and plan for data collection. Students who enroll in the research seminar will be expected to present their research at a local conference. Learn more about Education research opportunities.

TEACH Grant

Since science education is considered a high-need area, students in CCU's secondary education licensure program with a bachelor's degree in Science may be eligible for the TEACH grant. Learn more on our Financial Aid website.
