What Makes a Top Conservative College?

Each year, Young America’s Foundation releases its list of “Top Conservative Colleges” in the United States, and this year, Colorado Christian University made the list. In fact, CCU was this year’s featured edition (reported by FOX news) and was noted for its stance on ObamaCare, its facilities, and the CCU Centennial Institute, which offers events and seminars featuring speakers like Sarah Palin. The Foundation cited CCU’s curriculum and Strategic Objectives statement as particularly impressive. When CCU President Bill Armstrong found out about the honor, he said, “Colorado Christian University is honored by the selection and delighted to be part of the same cause that motivates both Young America’s Foundation and Colorado Christian University.”

What Makes CCU a Top Conservative College

When it comes to choosing the top conservative colleges, Young America’s Foundation has certain qualities it is looking for in these institutions of higher learning. The Top Conservative Colleges list recognizes institutions that “proclaim, through their mission and programs, a dedication to discovering, maintaining, and strengthening the conservative values of their students.” These schools encourage/allow their students to study conservative ideas and authors and focus on coursework that explores conservative principles such as a strong national defense, free enterprise and traditional values. By focusing on Western Civilization and avoiding topics like sexuality, feminism and postmodernism, students are better able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the country and culture in which they live.

Other schools receiving the honor this year are:

  • Christendom College
  • College of the Ozarks
  • Franciscan University
  • Grove City College
  • Harding University
  • Hillsdale College
  • The King’s College
  • Liberty University
  • Patrick Henry College
  • Regent University
  • Saint Vincent College
  • Thomas Aquinas College
  • Thomas More College
  • Wisconsin Lutheran College

I just read this blog on CCU being selected as one of the top conservative colleges. This is extremely impressive to me. I selected CCU because I felt that a college that incorporated the Bible and Christian values would provide a more rounded education. There would be other Christian students that I could fellowship with and God would be adding extra power to the learning and teaching aspect. So far, this has proved to be true in every sense of the word. I’m not getting half an education, I am getting all there is for an education. When people ask which college I am attending to get my MBA, I proudly state Colorado Christian University. Now, to find out that CCU was selected as one the top conservative colleges, that’s the cherry on top.
