How to Read More This Year
Making this year a page-turner? Looking to delve into great literature, self-help, or adventure? We’ve created five tips to help you on the hunt for the right read in 2020.
Here are 5 tips on how to read more
Find a Genre You Like
It’s hard to read when you don’t know which types of texts transport your mind best. Try different genres to see which kinds you cannot put down or consider making a list of topics you want to learn more about.
Pro Tip: Take a trip to your local secondhand book store where you can find books for $5 or less!
Set Goals
How many books do you want to read this year? How many books per month? Set page goals for each day to achieve your reading goal per month or per year. This is a great way to break down your resolution into tangible action items.
Pro Tip: Reward yourself. Treat yourself to something special every time you finish a book.
Join a Book Club
Reading may not be at the top of your list if you fancy yourself a social butterfly. Book clubs are a perfect fit for introverts and extraverts alike. Compare notes, so to speak. In these gatherings, you can discuss your favorite characters, thoughts, and subjects. New to the party? Bring a friend who might have the same reading resolution as you. More of a literary lone wolf? Check online forums to chat about book reviews and new and upcoming reads from your favorite authors.
Turn Down the TV and Sign off Social Media!
Old habits die hard. Those habits may include watching a favorite TV show, scrolling through social media feeds, or watching Instagram stories. If you want to try and read more, eliminate some activity on those electronics, sit in your favorite spot, and open a book.
Listen In with Audiobooks
If reading doesn’t suit your lifestyle right now, try audiobooks while you are driving, working out, cleaning the house, or doing your daily chores. Often some of your favorite actors, comedians, and even authors themselves will record audiobooks for your listening pleasure. Music and sound effects can help enhance your experience in listening to stories.
You’ll never know until you give it a go. Reading might become more than just a resolution, it very well might be your next best hobby!
