"Eloquent speech is not from lip to ear, but rather from heart to heart. "
William Bryan, American politician and representative (1860-1925)
The CCU Speech and Debate team will enter its first year of competition in 2011-12 academic year, competing nationally against some of the best colleges and universities in the country. CCU will compete in Parliamentary-style debate, which emphasizes argumentation, communication, and persuasion. CCU will also offer limited individual event competition (primarily prepared platform speeches and timed events).

Develop your argumentation, persuasion, and communication skills. These skills are essential in business, education, marketing, ministry, politics, and many other careers.
Deepen your understanding of world issues. Gain insight into the geo-political climate, current events and issues, and the values, philosophies, and principles undergirding them.
Add your legacy to CCU history. This is our first competitive debate team, so you'll have the chance to leave a mark of excellence for generations of students to follow.
Learn in a center of political thought. CCU's President, Bill Armstrong, is a former U.S. Senator and Congressman; we are also home to Centennial Institute, a thinktank led by former state senator John Andrews. Here you'll interact with prominent political voices who are at the heart of the national conversation.
Enjoy a healthy team environment. CCU is all about authentic community, and this is no different for our debate team. As you practice, travel, and compete together you'll also walk alongside each other's personal growth.
Boost your scholarship funds. A limited amount of scholarship money is available for students promising enough to become part of the CCU Debate Team.
