The Quarry Innovation Lab is Colorado Christian University's dedicated space for exploring AI and Christianity, emerging technology, and faithful innovation. Rooted in Job 28, the lab equips students to examine the intersection of faith and technology while grounding their work in what Scripture calls the beginning of wisdom: the fear of the Lord.
CCU is simply doing what it has always done, teaching students to learn and grow using the tools of the age. At one point, electricity in residence halls was cutting-edge. Today, it's artificial intelligence and immersive technologies. What must remain extraordinary is the community's commitment to discernment, ethics, imagination, and truth as students grapple with new tools and ideas.
Designed as a collaborative learning environment, The Quarry brings together AI exploration, coding and design, augmented and virtual reality, and research support. Students from every major are invited to engage, experiment, ask bold questions, and consider how technology shapes their calling. Directed by Dr. Kotter and a cross-disciplinary faculty team, the Quarry Innovation Lab cultivates Christian thinkers who seek wisdom first and then build with purpose. In this space, innovation is an act of stewardship: participating in God's creative and redemptive work.

The Quarry hosts workshops, lectures, and consulting sessions each semester to equip the CCU community for thoughtful engagement with AI and emerging technologies.

Fall 2025 programming included:
All workshops emphasized practical skills, ethical frameworks, and real-world use cases grounded in Christian wisdom.
The Quarry Innovation Lab begins with a question that has shaped human inquiry across generations: Where can wisdom be found? Drawing from the imagery of Job 28, where miners tunnel deep into the earth in search of hidden treasure, the lab approaches artificial intelligence and emerging technologies with the same posture of thoughtful pursuit. We seek understanding, examine both the promise and the limits of innovation, and ask not only what is possible, but what is wise.
At CCU, students explore AI and theology not as competing forces, but as an opportunity for faithful inquiry. Scripture provides the framework for engaging technology with discernment, imagination, and purpose. Rather than replacing human intelligence, AI can serve human flourishing when guided by Christian conviction. Through workshops, lectures, and hands-on experiences, the Quarry equips students to steward innovation responsibly and lead with integrity in an increasingly digital world.
The Quarry beautifully captures our calling to be a place where wisdom is uncovered and refined.— President Eric K. Hogue
Humanity has always mined the earth for resources — silver, gold, and now data and innovation. But The Quarry reminds us that true wisdom cannot be engineered; it must be revealed by God.— Dr. David Kotter, Dean of the School of Theology
We're not just shaping technology — we're shaping people who will use technology to serve the Kingdom.— Dr. Mark Parker, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering
The Quarry helps students and faculty explore artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and emerging technologies through a biblical lens. Rather than separating faith and technology, the lab provides a space for examining how Christian wisdom applies to innovation, ethics, and creative problem-solving.
The space is open to all CCU students, faculty, and staff, regardless of major or technical background.
No prior experience is required. Workshops and stations are designed for beginners through advanced learners.
Yes. Fall 2025 workshops have concluded; Spring 2026 workshops will be announced soon.
Students can reserve time in the Advisor Hub to meet with an AI expert for research or project support.
At CCU, faith and technology are not separate pursuits. The Quarry Innovation Lab equips students to engage AI, coding, and immersive technologies while applying biblical principles to their work. This Christ-centered approach prepares students to lead in technical fields with integrity and purpose.
