CCU Expands Nursing Program

Colorado Christian University introduced this month its RN-BSN Online Completion Program. Open to local, national, and international students who hold registered nurse (RN) licensure and have graduated from an accredited institution, the RN-BSN is offered through CCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies and results in a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN). Classes are scheduled to begin in January 2009.

Led by a nationally recognized faculty with extensive teaching and clinical experience, CCU's RN-BSN program provides nursing professionals with the broad background necessary to advance in graduate studies or many of today's health care professions such as public health and management. Students have opportunities to network with Christian nurses from around the world and to participate in an international nursing experience. They can also apply elective course credits toward certificates in biblical studies or project management.

The RN-BSN program is designed specifically for working adults and can be completed in as little as 15 months. Courses are offered one at a time in five-week, Web-based segments that allow students to balance work and family commitments while completing their degree. The curriculum blends Christian theory, leadership, and spiritual care fundamentals with a comprehensive analysis of subjects that include informatics, bioethics, health policy, and global health issues. Class sizes are kept small to provide a more personal learning experience and direct access to faculty members.

"This program is based on a 21st century curriculum that challenges students to examine issues in health care from a Christian worldview," commented Dr. Barbara White, dean and professor of nursing and sciences for CCU's College of Adult and Graduate Studies. "The program is designed to equip the next generation of Christian nurses worldwide."

The addition of CCU's RN-BSN program follows the successful 2007 launch of the nursing program at the University's Western Colorado Regional Center, which offers licensed practical nurses (LPNs) the opportunity to obtain an associate degree in nursing.
