CCU Hosts C.S. Lewis Foundation President Dr. Stanley Mattson
Colorado Christian University will host a dinner on November 28, 2007 to celebrate the birthday of Christian scholar, author, and apologist C.S. Lewis. This free-of-charge event will not only honor Lewis, but also local clergy members.
With limited seats available to clergy members and seminary students, the evening will feature guest speaker Dr. Stanley Mattson, founder and president of the C.S. Lewis Foundation (Redlands, California).
Dr. Mattson has long been active in advancing the legacy of C.S. Lewis. An American social and intellectual historian by training, Mattson holds advanced degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He has served as headmaster of the Master's School (Connecticut) and as a member of the teaching faculties at North Carolina State University, Gordon College (Massachusetts), and the University of Redlands (California). At Redlands he also served as director of corporate and foundation relations until leaving in 1986 to establish the Lewis Foundation.
The C.S. Lewis Foundation works to implement two primary changes in universities: First, to develop a more open forum for ideas grounded in Christian understanding. Secondly, to introduce an identifiable (although not homogeneous) body of Christian scholarly and artistic work into university and college curriculum.
"I look forward to our Lewis event with enthusiasm," stated Dr. Jeffrey Mallinson, Dean of the CCU School of Theology. "It will be an honor to host such a thoughtful scholar and communicator as Dr. Mattson. His call for others to help advance quality written and creative work in the service of Christ is important and stimulating."
