News: McDonald Joins CCU Board

CCU's Board of Trustees Welcomes New Member

Colorado Christian University welcomes its newest Board of Trustees member, Douglas I. McDonald. The president and CEO of McDonald Automotive Group, McDonald is a second-generation auto dealer and has become a pillar in the greater Denver community since opening a Volkswagen dealership in April, 1965. During his almost 50 years here, he has ably served the community while also growing his business from one new car franchise to five -- now including VW, Volvo, Mazda, Audi, and Hyundai.

Raised in the automotive industry, McDonald was already driving the parts truck for his father's Dodge dealership by the time he was 14. He began studying geology at Oklahoma University, but later changed his degree to business, with the hope of following his father's footsteps, and he graduated with a B.B.A. in 1961.

McDonald brings a wealth of experience to CCU's Board of Trustees. He has represented his industry by serving as the Chairman of the Board, Vice Chairman, and District Director of the Colorado Auto Dealers Association, and was awarded the 1991 Quality Dealer Award for Colorado by the National Automobile Dealers Association. He has also helped guide other organizations, including service as a board member of the Orchard Road Christian Center and Marilyn Hickey Ministries since 1990, as well as previously serving as Chairman of the Board with Littleton Methodist Church.

McDonald's wife, Linda, is also a graduate of Oklahoma University; the two met there and married in 1960. They have five sons -- two of whom are involved in McDonald Automotive Group -- and 18 grandchildren. For the past 25 years, he and Linda have personally traveled with Marilyn Hickey on two-week missionary trips throughout the world.
