Message from President Hogue on Pursuing Rigorous Excellence with an Unapologetic Christ-Centered Focus
While our nation celebrated Independence Day and many enjoyed the blessings of summer, our brothers and sisters in Texas were struck by unimaginable tragedy. Torrential flooding swept through communities — devastating homes, displacing families, and claiming lives, including the heartbreaking loss of many young girls attending a Christian summer camp.
We are heartsick at Colorado Christian University as we witness this unfolding crisis.
Words feel insufficient in the face of such sorrow. Yet Scripture reminds us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
A number of our remote CCU employees live near the affected regions and are actively assisting with relief efforts. Additionally, a significant portion of our traditional undergraduate students are Texas residents — many of whom are now watching their home communities suffer, with family and friends directly impacted. Beyond that, hundreds of our CCU Online students and affiliate faculty live in Texas and may be experiencing the effects of this disaster firsthand. Please pray for their strength, safety, and witness.
As the body of Christ, all of us — regardless of location — are called to stand with those who suffer, interceding on their behalf and trusting in God’s goodness, even amid deep sorrow.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). We serve a God who sees, who knows, and who cares. He walks with the hurting, even through the floodwaters.
As followers of Christ, we are not called to look away, but to lean in. Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Let us be the body of Christ — lifting up the people of Texas in prayer, asking for protection and provision for first responders and relief workers, and trusting in God’s redemptive grace in the days ahead.
Our prayers are not passive. They have the power to bring Jesus’ love, hope, healing, and grace into places of heartbreak. They are our first response, not our last resort. “For the effectual prayers of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)
Please join me and Tammy in praying fervently and faithfully. I also encourage each of us to prayerfully consider how we might support ongoing relief efforts as a further reflection of Christ’s love.
And may our Lord, in His mercy, bring healing and restoration to all who are suffering during the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. At CCU we know for certain that God is good, and His mercy endures forever.
