Dr. Donald W. Sweeting Concluding Distinguished Service at Colorado Christian University As Chancellor

Lakewood, Colo. – Colorado Christian University announces that Chancellor Dr. Donald W. Sweeting is concluding his distinguished service to the University on June 30 2025, as part of the University’s fiscal year 2026 restructuring.

Sweeting has faithfully served CCU since 2004—first as a trustee, then as president beginning in 2016, and as chancellor since 2022. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing the University’s Christ-centered mission, expanding its academic reach, and guiding both its spiritual and institutional growth.

"Dr. Sweeting’s legacy at CCU is extraordinary," said Eric K. Hogue, President of Colorado Christian University. "His leadership has helped shape a generation of students and faculty. He has stewarded the mission of Christ-centered higher education with wisdom, conviction, and grace. We are deeply grateful for his impact on this community."

Under Sweeting’s leadership, CCU experienced record enrollment, expanded its academic offerings, and launched key strategic initiatives that have positioned the University for long-term strength.

Sweeting led the University through the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most trying times for educational institutions for a generation. In addition, during his tenure the University launched its first doctoral-level degree program, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Visionary Leadership, and opened Rockmont Hall, a 330-bed, apartment-style residence hall, the fourth building in the campus redevelopment effort.

He has been a strong advocate for Christian thought in public life, frequently contributing to national conversations on faith, culture, and higher education.

Colorado Christian University remains committed to building upon Sweeting’s legacy by advancing academic excellence, spiritual formation and kingdom impact.

This restructuring is part of a broader plan aimed at positioning CCU for long-term sustainability and strategic investment in key initiatives. This includes sunsetting the Office of the Chancellor, the development of a new Provost role to lead academic alignment, implementation of new university-wide technology systems, strategic fundraising campaigns for science and engineering and Cougar Athletics, and a comprehensive marketing and branding initiative designed to strengthen visibility and bolster enrollment.

"Dr. Sweeting will always be a part of the CCU family," said Hogue. "We look forward to continuing our friendship and benefiting from his wisdom in the years to come."

To honor Sweeting and Christina, his wife, the University will host an event this fall where all faculty and staff will be invited to join in expressing appreciation for their years of service. Details about this event will be shared with the campus community at a later date.
