Colorado Christian University Receives “A” Rating for General Education Program from ACTA

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Colorado Christian University has earned an “A” rating from The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) through its nationally recognized What Will They Learn?® initiative, placing CCU among the top 2% of colleges and universities in the nation for the strength of its general education curriculum.

Out of more than 1,100 institutions evaluated nationwide, only 19 universities received an “A” distinction for requiring a comprehensive core curriculum rooted in the liberal arts and sciences.

ACTA’s What Will They Learn?® project evaluates colleges and universities based on whether students are required to complete coursework in seven foundational subject areas: composition, literature, intermediate-level foreign language, U.S. government or history, economics, mathematics, and natural science.

By requiring 48 credit hours of general education coursework across the liberal arts, CCU was recognized for maintaining one of the strongest academic core curricula in the country.

“We are honored to receive this distinction from ACTA,” said Eric Hogue, president of Colorado Christian University. “At CCU, we are determined to teach the liberal arts as we train the professions. We believe students are best prepared for lives of purpose and leadership when they are grounded in the classics, the humanities, and the great books alongside their professional studies. A strong liberal arts foundation equips graduates to think critically, communicate clearly, pursue truth, and engage culture with grace and truth.”

ACTA specifically noted CCU’s robust offerings in the liberal arts and sciences and highlighted the university’s requirement of two strong courses in areas such as English composition and U.S. history or government.

"General education courses introduce students to the permanent things-biblical truth, philosophical inquiry, historical memory, literary imagination, political reflection, and sound reasoning,” said University Provost David Corbin. “Through contact with the best of what has been written, spoken, and done, students grow in wisdom, discernment, and their ability to live faithful lives of service to others. Colorado Christian University is honored to receive this recognition and dedicated to further deepening students' knowledge through these offerings.”

The recognition comes at a time when many colleges and universities across the nation are reducing or narrowing general education requirements. ACTA commended CCU for continuing to invest in a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes the enduring importance of the liberal arts.
