Steve Taylor to Retire as Dean of the School of Music

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Colorado Christian University announces that Steve Taylor, dean and professor in the School of Music, will retire at the end of the academic year, marking over two decades of distinguished academic leadership as dean and over four decades of service to Colorado Christian University.

Since joining the CCU music program faculty, he helped shape the program's artistic direction, academic strength, and Christ-centered identity. In 2006, he was appointed dean, a role in which he guided the School of Music through many seasons while mentoring faculty and investing deeply in students' formation as both musicians and Christian leaders.

A respected baritone with an extensive performance career in opera, oratorio, and musical theatre, Taylor has brought professional excellence into the classroom and onto the stage. His leadership emphasized the integration of faith and artistry, ensuring that musical training at CCU remained grounded in the University's broader mission.

CCU President Eric Hogue praised Taylor's lasting influence on the institution.

"Steve Taylor's legacy at CCU is one of faithful service, artistic excellence, and unwavering commitment to Christ-centered higher education," Hogue said. "For decades, he has shaped generations of students and strengthened the School of Music in ways that will endure for years to come. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and the lasting imprint he leaves on this University."

Reflecting on his retirement, Taylor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

"It has been one of the great honors of my life to teach, lead, and make music alongside such gifted students and colleagues," Taylor said. "My students, graduates, faculty, staff, and colleagues have been the greatest inspiration and blessing I could've ever had — they have been my life-giving joy! I am indeed a grateful man to have shared life, passion, and ministry with all of them. The School of Music has always been about more than performance; it is also about formation. I am thankful for the years the Lord has given me at CCU."

Taylor's impact on Colorado Christian University — and on the countless students who have studied under his leadership — remains a defining part of the School of Music and its continued pursuit of artistic excellence grounded in faith.
