Biography and Professional Achievements

Dr. Gossett-Thrower was a first-generation college student and served as a school counselor for over 20 years. She has worked with students at all levels, from kindergarten through college. Dr. Gossett-Thrower worked primarily in schools with high populations of first-generation, low-income students, yet has been honored to witness students earn acceptance into highly selective institutions and earn millions of dollars in scholarships. She is excited to share her passion and knowledge not only with school counselors but also with those who are seeking to take their expertise to the next level in leadership and advocacy for students at all levels.

Dr. Gossett-Thrower is fluent in Spanish and has presented English and Spanish for first-generation students and their parents in pre-collegiate programs. Dr. Gossett-Thrower has also presented to teachers, counselors, and counselors-in-training on college and career readiness, including specialized training in working with English language learners.

Dr. Gossett-Thrower served in counseling victims of domestic violence and persons with intellectual disabilities. Her interests lie in positive psychology, resilience, and a growth mindset.

Faith and Learning

Dr. Gossett-Thrower enjoys helping counselors-in-training make connections between scripture and Jesus' parables. Also, she is passionate about youth feeling safe and connected to their religious and spiritual identities in school settings.
