McTavish succeeds Gary Armstrong as CCU Board Chair
Colorado Christian University alumnus Tim A. McTavish MBA ’13 has been elected chair of the CCU Board of Trustees. He succeeds Gary Armstrong, who has served as board chair since 2014 and will conclude his 18 years of service to the board in October.
McTavish was elected to the board in 2009, during the tenure of then-President Bill Armstrong and at the outset of the initial phases of the Lakewood campus redevelopment effort.
"Tim is no stranger to CCU — he is a champion for the University. He is an alumnus, an affiliate faculty member, and a parent of three CCU students. He has exceptional vision, and has made a tremendous impact as one of our long-serving board members,” said CCU President Donald W. Sweeting.
“As a former trustee, I know that having a board chair with Tim's acumen and breadth of experience is a tremendous advantage for CCU. It’s an exciting time at the University as we seek to complete phase two of our Lakewood campus redevelopment, expand our program offerings in both of our colleges, and continue to equip alumni who will contribute to their communities and have an impact for God’s kingdom around the world. I know Tim will be a terrific partner and a great leader of our Board of Trustees,” Sweeting said.

McTavish said campus redevelopment efforts will remain a priority, coupled with growing program offerings and promoting the CCU brand in the Denver metro area and beyond.
“What sets CCU apart is our excellence and our commitment to the integration of faith and learning,” McTavish said. “We need to ensure that we are constantly investing in all aspects of our mission to provide Christ-centered higher education transforming students to impact the world with grace and truth.”
McTavish founded InsureMe in 1993, an entrepreneurial venture that connected insurance agents with high-intent prospects shopping for insurance. McTavish credits the success of that platform to dedicating the business to Christ while implementing basic biblical principles in the workplace. During his time leading the company, InsureMe was ranked in the “Top 25 Great Places to Work in America” and was also named the most philanthropic small business in Colorado.
In 2008, McTavish sold InsureMe to Bankrate, a public company. Since then, McTavish has been involved as an investor and advisor to several businesses in Colorado and abroad. He has also taught courses in entrepreneurship and personal financial planning in the School of Business and Leadership in CCU's College of Undergraduate Studies, where he was named affiliate faculty member of the year in 2018.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in management from Pacific Union College, McTavish holds an MBA from Colorado Christian University. He and his wife, Pam, reside in Parker, Colo. They have three children, David ’18, Katie ’20, and Laura ’23.
Tim and Pam McTavish will join Wil and Kristy Armstrong as co-hosts of the inaugural CCU President’s Weekend, a special event for top-tier University donors in February 2021.
McTavish succeeds long-time trustee and friend of CCU, Gary Armstrong. Armstrong departs with the satisfaction of having overseen several consecutive years of significant enrollment growth at CCU, as well as the establishment of the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics; the construction of Leprino Hall, Yetter Hall, Rockmont Hall, and the Anschutz Student Center; and the selection of Dr. Donald W. Sweeting to succeed Bill Armstrong as president of CCU.
“I am very fortunate to succeed such a capable and highly esteemed individual as Gary Armstrong,” McTavish said. “The progress and growth that CCU has made during his 18 years as a trustee and six years as chairman are a testament to his abilities as a godly leader, as well as a testament to God’s continued hand of provision on CCU.”
“We are truly indebted to Gary Armstrong for his steady hand of leadership and many years of service to Colorado Christian University,” said Sweeting. “It has been a great joy for me to serve alongside him, first as a trustee of CCU, and now as president of CCU. He is a dear friend and has been a calm and consistent voice of wisdom for nearly 20 years — he will be greatly missed as a trustee.”
