Biography and Professional Achievements
Dr. Shawn Elliott comes from a long family line of nurses — her grandmother, mother, aunt, sister, and cousin. Dr. Elliott felt called by God to serve in the healthcare mission field and has now worked in nursing for more than 35 years. Pediatrics has been her passion for most of her career, with experience ranging from outpatient care to the intensive care unit. She began her career in pediatric hematology and oncology, a specialty that has remained woven throughout many of her roles. She is also an Air Force veteran.
Dr. Elliott began working in higher education in 2006 as a contract educator and later advanced into leadership roles. Throughout her career, she has been active in nursing organizations and has served in multiple leadership positions. She finds her greatest joy in mentoring new nurses and developing emerging leaders in the profession.

Faith and Learning
Nursing is a profession that is always changing. Dr. Elliott believes nursing is a constantly evolving profession, and her philosophy of learning centers on being an active participant in the lifelong pursuit of knowledge with a growth mindset. She sees her walk with the Lord as following a similar path of continual seeking and growth in spiritual gifts, using them for the benefit of God’s kingdom. Her faith has been strengthened through life’s calm and stormy seasons alike. She has learned to rely on God’s presence in daily life, a reliance that helps her build resilience in the face of adversity.
