Minor in STEM Research

It is our privilege as Christians in the sciences to study God’s magnificent creation.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Research minor provides comprehensive exposure to all aspects of STEM research. Students will gain knowledge and experience in how to develop research questions, design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data objectively, along with how to effectively communicate their findings. This includes developing essential scientific communication skills necessary for effective interaction with professional scientists and for discussing scientific literature.

Through this program, you will be equipped with specialized training in laboratory-based skills and critical thinking. You will develop a research question, design experiments to address the question, and spend several semesters conducting research in the lab to investigate it as part of your own research projects. Throughout your undergraduate career, you will present your research findings at lab meetings and the Rocky Mountain Undergraduate Research Conference, held on campus every spring. The research experience culminates in the writing and successful defense of your research thesis.

STEM Research at CCU

Offered through CCU's School of Science and Engineering, the STEM Research minor prepares you with the skillset needed to explore creation on a deeper level, using your discoveries to glorify God for His wondrous works. You will acquire the valuable experience necessary to pursue post-graduate research endeavors and develop a thorough understanding and appreciation for the techniques and methodologies that drive scientific innovation in interdisciplinary STEM.

A STEM Research minor will give you the necessary expertise and experience required to enter into a professional research associate position or to pursue post-graduate endeavors in research, such as master’s and Ph.D. programs in the biomedical sciences. Former CCU research students have entered top-tier Ph.D. programs at the University of Denver, Purdue University, Stanford University, and many others. These programs often involve collaboration with professional scientists and provide opportunities to engage in hands-on research across various STEM fields.

About the School of Science and Engineering

In the School of Science and Engineering at Colorado Christian University, character forms the bedrock of God-honoring and kingdom-building science. We aim to help our students explore the world that God created, use cutting-edge technology, and discover how faith interacts with questions that arise out of studying science. We focus on teaching our students how to articulate a Christian perspective on issues such as bioethics, ecology, and human life.

Science and engineering programs are taught within the world of ideas, synthesizing the liberal arts, advanced theories, and applied technology. Our faculty intentionally seek out ways to hone a Christ-like character in our students, inspiring them to become moral and ethical, world-changing leaders. Purposefully small classes and laboratories invite students to learn with their hands as well as their minds. This instills a level of mastery necessary to become a leader in rapidly-advancing fields of science and engineering.
